Kenya 2020
“O Taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Psalm 34:8
We’re nearly a third of the way into this new year, and so much has taken place around us. At the end of 2019, someone asked me about the possibility of visiting one of the Green Bean Project ministries. I didn’t have any trips planned or even on the radar for that matter, but I committed to pray about it. A few weeks into the new year, I received a simple message from the missionaries in Kenya: “I think it’s time for you to come back.”
Those two little events have put things in motion. This year is the tenth anniversary of the ministry in Kenya. They have invited us to come see what God has done over the last ten years and to make some plans for the next ten years.
The Current Plan
Our tentative plans are to leave for Kenya on May 14th and to return May 24th. I can hear you thinking right now, “But what about the Coronavirus?!” This is a legitimate concern.
Two members of our team still do not have passports. This means we cannot purchase tickets or request visas until we have passports in hand. I see this unexpected delay as God’s buffer. This gives us a couple more weeks to see how the situation will unfold before we actually purchase tickets. If we were scheduled to leave today, it would be impossible due to the restrictions on flights through Europe (our best routing takes us through Amsterdam). We’re trusting the Lord to provide both guidance and wisdom when the time comes to make the decision, and we ask for your prayer in this matter. We hope to go SOMETIME this year, even if the original May dates don’t work out.
What We’ll Be Doing
So, what will we be doing while we’re there? In addition to seeing what God has done and making plans for the future, we’ll be teaching some classes at the schools and visiting the church there. I hope to have at least one or two times with the ladies we’ve met with in the past.
The Sangs have asked us to bring a few simple things, including two soccer balls, two basketballs, and play shorts for the children. That’s play shorts for 287 children! If anyone knows of any good deals on children’s red soccer shorts, please let me know!!!!
We also hope to take along some Sunday school crafts for the children and other such things. (We’ll keep you updated on what’s going along as we get more details.) Please be praying with us as we make preparations for this trip, trusting the Lord to work out all the details and supply every need!
In the Meantime…
In other news, we’re still plugging along. Friday Bible Studies are still in session, we’ve enjoyed the company of our young new volunteer, and the Redeeming Love in Action course is still going strong. We did cancel the March Clothing Exchange due to a water leak at the church that caused a huge amount of damage to the church building. We’re grateful that the insurance at the church is taking care of the mitigation and repairs for the church building and that NOTHING in the clothing exchange was affected. God is good!
We’re excited to see what the Lord is doing in these interesting times!
